Bhubaneswar, 01 August (H.S.): Odisha’s Minister for Fisheries & Animal Resources Development and MSME, Gokulananda Mallik, has stated that efforts have been intensified to ensure the safety of livestock, provide emergency veterinary care, and streamline the supply of cattle feed in flood-affected regions of the state.

According to the minister, floods have impacted nearly 488,868 livestock across 1,341 villages, 398 gram panchayats, and 45 blocks in 9 districts. In response, the Animal Resources Department has deployed 58 Rapid Response Teams (RRTs), which have conducted 245 animal health camps and provided treatment to 15,179 animals so far.

To prevent the spread of diseases, 646,825 livestock were vaccinated prior to the floods, while an additional 11,800 animals have been vaccinated in the post-flood period.

The government has also taken extensive measures to address fodder shortages in affected areas. As of July 31, out of 263.7 metric tonnes of cattle feed received, 157.3 metric tonnes have already been distributed. Additionally, 13.9 quintals of dry fodder, 10 quintals of straw, and 73.2 quintals of green fodder have been supplied as relief.

The minister emphasized that strict instructions have been issued to ensure that no animal remains unfed or without medical care in the affected regions, with officials and staff directed to provide continuous support on the ground.
