Guwahati, 01 August (HS): Assam Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika has announced that the state government is preparing a comprehensive alternative farming plan for families whose agricultural land was devastated by the recent floods in Sivasagar district.

The minister said on Saturday that nearly one lakh families have been affected by the floods, while crops belonging to around 60,000 families have been destroyed. As a result, many farmers will not be able to cultivate paddy during the current season.

To help them restore their livelihoods, the government is planning alternative cultivation measures. The Agriculture Department is ready to distribute fruit saplings to affected farmers and will also facilitate the cultivation of rabi crops so that they can generate income despite the loss of the paddy season.

Hazarika said the initiative aims to ensure that flood-hit farming families receive timely support and are able to resume agricultural activities through suitable alternative crops.----------
