
Sub-inspector arrested in Tarn Taran with heroin; Fazilka police post Munshi held with smugglers
Chandigarh, 09 July (H.S.): Punjab Police have arrested two of their own personnel in separate drug trafficking cases reported from the border districts of Tarn Taran and Fazilka.
In Tarn Taran, a sub-inspector identified as Sahib Singh was arrested after 300 grams of heroin and alleged drug money were recovered from a premises near Jhabal. The accused was posted in the border district and is a resident of Majupur village.
According to information, the CIA staff had received inputs that the sub-inspector was allegedly misusing his uniform and was involved in drug trafficking activities. Acting on the information, a special team was formed under the supervision of SP Investigation Riputapan Singh.
The team conducted a raid near Jhabal, where around 300 grams of heroin and alleged drug money were recovered. Sahib Singh was later arrested and taken into custody for further questioning.
Sources said the accused sub-inspector allegedly helped in transporting heroin coming from Pakistan to Punjab and other states. However, Punjab Police have not yet issued an official statement in this regard.
In another case, a police post Munshi posted at Ghubaya police post in Fazilka district was arrested by Sri Muktsar Sahib Police in a heroin trafficking case.
According to police, the action was taken during a naka, when a suspicious car was stopped. During checking, police recovered 280 grams of heroin and a licensed revolver from the occupants of the vehicle.
The case took a serious turn when one of the persons sitting in the car was identified as Joginder Singh, the Station Writer ‘munshi’ posted at Ghubaya police post in the Jalalabad area. He was arrested on the spot.
DSP Jalalabad Gursewak Singh Brar said that after the arrest of the Station Writer ‘munshi’, senior officers examined the matter in detail. Questions were also raised over the role of Ghubaya police post in-charge Gurnam Singh. Due to alleged negligence and suspicious conduct, he was also named in the case.
Following the development, both the police post in-charge Gurnam Singh and munshi Joginder Singh were suspended.
