Raigad, 09 July
(HS): Thousands of LPG gas cylinders from a Hindustan Petroleum bottling plant
in Panvel in Raigad district were seen floating in flood water. Maharashtra’s Raigad
district was flooded due to heavy rains. The number of empty cylinders flown
away in the flood are estimated to be about 3,000. Taking serious note of the
incident the Raigad District Collector Kishan Jawle has appealed to the people
not to touch any cylinder as it could blast and cause serious damage.
The water level
in rivers in Raigad district is high due to heavy rains. Warning of heavy to
heavy rains were issued by the Mat Department. The force of the water was very strong,
which prevented any measure to be taken before the cylinders were flown away.
The cylinders were
flown towards Patalganga River towards Khalapur and Pen. Search operation was
immediately started. The District Collector has appealed to the people to
inform the nearest gas agency if they locate any cylinder.
