Several Students Fall Sick After Eating Allegedly Contaminated Khichdi at Nagarkurnool Hoste

Hyderabad, July 9 (HS): Several students of the Mannanur Primitive Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) Gurukul Hostel in Amrabad mandal of Nagarkurnool district fell ill on Thursday after allegedly consuming contaminated khichdi served for breakfast.

According to students, the khichdi was allegedly infested with maggots. Soon after breakfast, several children complained of vomiting, stomach pain and nausea.

The affected students were immediately shifted to the Government Hospital in Achampet, where they are undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.

Achampet MLA Dr. Vamshi Krishna and Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi, who were in New Delhi at the time of the incident, directed district officials and doctors to ensure proper medical treatment for the students.

In a video message, Dr. Vamshi Krishna said a detailed inquiry had been ordered into the incident and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found negligent, including the principal, caretaker or any other responsible official.

He noted that a similar food poisoning incident had occurred at another hostel in Amrabad mandal last year and said repeated incidents pointed to serious lapses in supervision. He assured that those responsible would face stringent action after the inquiry.
