Imphal, 09 July (HS): Manipur Police and security forces have intensified their crackdown on insurgent activities and drug trafficking, leading to the arrest of two alleged extortionists linked to banned militant outfits and the seizure of a large quantity of methamphetamine over the last 24 hours.

Accepting to the official information on Thursday, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of the KYKL outfit, identified as Takhellambam Gremichand alias Inaocha Singh (52), from Kalika Bamon Kampu under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East district. Police recovered a 9 mm pistol, two magazines and 70 live rounds of ammunition from his possession.

In another operation, security forces apprehended an active cadre of the KCP (PWG), identified as Angom Chingkheinganba Meitei (27), from Aihang Village Gate under Waikhong Police Station in Kakching district. He was allegedly involved in extortion activities.

Meanwhile, a joint team of Manipur Police and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) recovered around 22 kg of WY tablets (methamphetamine) packed in 19 packets during a raid at the residence of Ms. Paominlin Munlo in Churachandpur. A Mahindra Bolero vehicle was also seized from the premises.

Security forces also continued search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable and fringe areas across the state. Authorities ensured the safe movement of 151 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway-37 by providing security escorts in sensitive stretches. Additionally, 114 checkpoints were set up across hill and valley districts to strengthen security and maintain law and order.-----------
