Telangana: Kavitha's Party to Reply to EC Notices on Party Name Within a Week

Hyderabad, July 9 (HS): The Delhi High Court has directed the Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS), led by Kalvakuntla Kavitha, to submit its reply to notices issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) over objections to the party's proposed name and abbreviation.

According to a statement issued by the party on Wednesday, its counsel informed the court that a reply to the Election Commission would be submitted within a week.

The party said it had earlier issued public notices inviting objections to its proposed name as advised by the Election Commission and had responded to the objections communicated by the poll panel.

The party's counsel argued that the Election Commission had asked it to suggest three alternative names after receiving multiple objections. He submitted that the party had the right to know the nature of all objections and the identities of those who raised them before responding.

Taking note of the submissions, the Delhi High Court directed that the party be given an opportunity to present its case before the Election Commission after it submits its reply.

The Telangana Rakshana Sena also maintained that it had originally applied for registration under the name Telangana Praja Jagruthi and that the Election Commission had allotted Telangana Rakshana Sena as one of the options during the registration process.

The dispute arose after objections were raised over the use of the abbreviation TRS, which was earlier associated with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, now renamed Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

The party said Kavitha would personally appear before the Election Commission after submitting its response.
