New Delhi, 09 July (H.S.): Rainfall is expected to continue over Delhi-NCR and several other parts of the country during the next few days, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast persistent spells of very heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from July 10 to July 14.
According to the IMD, light rain accompanied by strong winds is likely during the morning or afternoon on Friday and Saturday in the national capital. Rising temperatures during this period may also increase humidity levels. It is noteworthy that intermittent and, at times, continuous heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours has severely disrupted normal life across several parts of Delhi.
Major intersections, underpasses, and residential areas in the national capital witnessed knee-deep waterlogging. In several locations, inundated roads resulted in long queues of vehicles, forcing office commuters to endure hours of traffic congestion.
According to the Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon has now advanced over Barmer, Jodhpur, Bathinda, and adjoining regions. Conditions are expected to remain favourable for its further advance across the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and the rest of the country over the next two to three days.
Jammu and Kashmir is likely to receive heavy rainfall between July 10 and July 12. Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh are expected to experience rainfall until July 10, while eastern Uttar Pradesh is likely to witness intermittent showers until July 13.
The IMD has also issued a heavy rainfall warning for Madhya Pradesh on July 10 and 11. Chhattisgarh and the Vidarbha region are expected to receive widespread rainfall over the coming days, interspersed with periods of light showers.
Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal are likely to witness widespread rainfall on different days between July 10 and July 14. Heavy rainfall is also expected to continue across the sub-Himalayan districts of West Bengal and Sikkim.
In western and northeastern India, Maharashtra, Goa, the Konkan region, and areas around Mumbai are likely to receive heavy rainfall until July 14. Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds until July 12 for several northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Tripura.
