New Delhi, 09 July (H.S.):
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday criticised the Delhi Government over widespread waterlogging reported in several parts of the national capital following recent rainfall. Delhi AAP President Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar, and Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Ankush Narang issued separate statements questioning the city's drainage management and demanding accountability from the government.
Saurabh Bharadwaj shared videos of waterlogged areas on the social media platform X, claiming that even recently constructed roads had been submerged following the rains. Criticising the government, he remarked that development is flowing away in Delhi. He also claimed that waterlogging was witnessed this time even in Sadar Bazaar, one of Asia's largest wholesale markets.
Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar alleged that all major agencies responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of drains in Delhi are under the control of the Delhi Government. He claimed that there had been serious negligence in the upkeep of drains managed by the Public Works Department (PWD), the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the Flood and Irrigation Department, and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). He further alleged large-scale irregularities in desilting and drain-cleaning operations and called for an impartial investigation into the matter.
MCD Leader of the Opposition Ankush Narang said that continuous rainfall had resulted in severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions across several parts of the capital. He claimed that residents in areas including Laxmi Nagar faced considerable hardship and alleged that the Delhi Government's claims regarding preparedness and infrastructure had not translated into effective results on the ground.
In another post on social media, Narang highlighted the waterlogging situation in Vinod Nagar and questioned the effectiveness of local civic arrangements. He alleged that despite repeated claims of development, residents continued to struggle with waterlogging, damaged roads, and inadequate civic infrastructure.
The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded that the Delhi Government strengthen the city's drainage system, implement a permanent solution to recurring waterlogging, and conduct a thorough investigation into the execution of drain-cleaning and desilting works.
