
Pune, 09 July
(HS): Nine people were rescued from the debris, buried under heap of garbage in
Moshi Garbage Depot in Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Pune District, which collapsed
on a government building on Wednesday. The rescue operations is going on a war
footing. Six or seven people are still suspected buried under the debris.
The rescued
people have been hospitalised. The Fire Brigade and National Disaster Response
Force team worked overnight to search for those suspected under the garbage.
The heap of
garbage collapsed suddenly on Wednesday on a building near it, due to heavy
rains. The building collapsed when 15 to 16 workers present in it. The garbage
was stored for recycling under ‘Waste to Energy’ project.
Minister for Disaster
Management Girish Mahajan visited the site and inspected the rescue operation.
Unconfirmed sources reported death of three workers. Official have not
confirmed the deaths.
