Guwahati, 07 July (HS): Assam Minister Biswajit Daimary on Tuesday said that religious conversion is prohibited under the state's anti-conversion law and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating the legislation. Minister Daimari was talking to media persons outside of the house after participating the debate in Assam Legislative Assembly.
The minister stated that Assam already has a stringent legal framework against unlawful religious conversions and assured that authorities would initiate action immediately upon receiving any complaint related to such activities. He also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases.
Commenting on welfare benefits to Bodo community, Daimary alleged that a section of religious minorities (Christians) has been availing benefits reserved for Scheduled Tribes while simultaneously enjoying minority-specific welfare schemes. He claimed that some individuals were illegally securing tribal status in addition to receiving benefits meant for religious minorities, calling for greater scrutiny of such practices.----------
