Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid heartfelt tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary, describing him as one of India's foremost nation-builders whose life was dedicated to scholarship, courage and selfless service to the nation.

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said Dr. Mookerjee devoted himself to strengthening India's unity, dignity and progress, and that his ideals continue to inspire the country's journey towards becoming a developed nation.

Recalling Dr. Mookerjee's wide-ranging contributions, Prime Minister Modi said he was an eminent thinker and educationist who strongly supported innovation and forward-looking learning. He also highlighted Dr. Mookerjee's tenure as India's Industries Minister, during which he laid the foundation for industrial self-reliance while ensuring the growth of traditional industries and livelihoods.

The Prime Minister also remembered Dr. Mookerjee's humanitarian work during the Bengal Famine, saying it reflected his deep compassion for people facing hardship.

Highlighting his enduring legacy, Prime Minister Modi said Dr. Mookerjee's unwavering commitment to India's unity and integrity continues to serve as a lasting source of inspiration for the nation.
