The award distribution ceremony for the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition for Universities and Colleges, 2024–25, will be held at Parliament House on Tuesday.
According to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal will preside over the ceremony. He will present awards to the universities, colleges, and students who delivered outstanding performances in the competition.
On the occasion, students from the University of Kashmir in Jammu and Kashmir will recreate their winning Youth Parliament session during the ceremony. The university secured the first position in this year's national competition.
The Youth Parliament Scheme aims to promote self-discipline among young people, encourage the fair and constructive expression of ideas, familiarise students with the functioning of Parliament and parliamentary procedures, develop debating skills, and nurture confidence, leadership qualities, and effective public speaking abilities.
The University of Kashmir will be presented with the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Running Parliamentary Shield for securing the first position at the national level.
In addition, seven universities and colleges that emerged as group-level winners will receive Group Winner Trophies from the minister. These institutions are DAV College, Jalandhar (Punjab); Jadavpur University, Kolkata (West Bengal); Shivaji University, Kolhapur (Maharashtra); Central University of Punjab, Bathinda; SSMRV College, Bengaluru (Karnataka); Chanakya National Law University, Patna (Bihar); and Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (Haryana).
