IAEA Would Name Perpetrator of ZNPP Shelling If There Was Irrefutable Evidence - Grossi

VIENNA, July 6 (HS/RIA Novosti) - The IAEA could name the perpetrator of the attacks on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) if there was irrefutable evidence, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

If we had the irrefutable evidence, we could be saying that. So we need to understand that this is a war, and in a war, of course, there are radically opposing views on something, he said.

The IAEA chief added that the agency's goal was to prevent a nuclear accident.

Of course, it is a fine line, and sometimes someone said that in an international organization, you try to make people equally unhappy, Grossi explained.

He added that the transition to attributing blame posed a challenge for the IAEA, as an independent agency.

Entering into this attribution of guilt presents for us as an independent agency the difficulty of needing to have all the elements to prove that this is the case. And you know that in this world where we have war of drones, it is very difficult. Debris does not allow you to identify where this, he noted.

The IAEA chief added that great care and caution are needed.

I know that sometimes people are a bit disappointed with that, but we hope they will understand, he said.
