
Hooghly, 05 July (H.S.): A significant meeting was held on Sunday at Somrabazar with hawkers operating on the Howrah–Katwa railway branch, during which various issues, demands, and suggestions raised by the hawkers were discussed in detail. The meeting was attended by Sumana Sarkar, a minister of the West Bengal government.
During the discussion, hawkers highlighted several practical concerns related to their livelihood, passenger services, security arrangements, seating facilities, administrative support, and overall working conditions.
Sumana Sarkar listened carefully to the concerns of the hawkers and said that the state government remains committed to protecting the interests of hawkers while also ensuring convenience and services for passengers. She stated that all relevant stakeholders would work in coordination to address the legitimate demands and problems of the hawkers so that passenger services remain unaffected and the livelihood of hawkers is safeguarded.
Representatives of the hawker community also put forward several important proposals during the meeting. Special emphasis was laid on mutual cooperation and adopting a solution-oriented approach to resolve the issues.
At the end of the meeting, Sumana Sarkar said, “I am the daughter of your household and will always remain dedicated to serving you.”
Her message generated a sense of hope among the hawkers and reflected the state government's sympathetic and cooperative approach towards the hawker community.
