Yogi government's initiative in presence of Governor
Anandiben Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Horticulture
Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh, emphasis on providing global market to mangoes
Lucknow, 04 July (HS): On Saturday, the second day of the
three-day Uttar Pradesh Mango Festival-2026, organized on the
initiative of the Yogi government, a Mango Buyer-Seller Meet was
held at Jan Bhavan, Lucknow. The event was attended by the state's Governor,
Anandiben Patel, along with Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Horticulture, Agricultural
Marketing, Agricultural Foreign Trade and Agricultural Exports, Dinesh Pratap
Singh.
On this occasion, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were
also signed between mango exporters and mango producers. Held under the
guidance of the Governor, the main objective of this meet was to directly
connect progressive mango growers and farmers of Uttar Pradesh with national
and international buyers, so that the world-famous mangoes of Uttar Pradesh
could receive a global platform and fair prices.
Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh said that this is the first
Mango Festival being held in the courtyard of the Jan Bhavan. Expressing his
gratitude to the Governor, he said, We never dreamed that farmers from
the Horticulture Department would be able to enjoy the Mango Festival in the
courtyard of the Jan Bhavan. His Excellency has boosted the morale of farmers
by opening the courtyard of the Jan Bhavan to them, and this will always be
remembered. He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra
Modi, the Yogi government is working at every level for the prosperity of
farmers.
The Horticulture Minister stated that Uttar Pradesh accounts
for 26% of India's total mango production. He appealed to industrialists to set
up food processing units in the state, for which the Yogi government provides
up to 50% subsidy. Citing the example of Kashi Brand Honey, he said
that branding will provide a global market and increase the income of
beekeepers. He added that with the construction of Jewar Airport, all cargo
will now flow directly to markets like Moscow, allowing mangoes that cost Rs. 80
to sell for Rs. 800 per kg, boosting farmers' morale.
Minister Singh said that while horticultural crops cover
only 9% of the state's total agricultural land, they contribute 42% to
production and 52% to value. The Horticulture Department is paving the way for
farmers' prosperity by cultivating capsicum worth Rs. 15 lakh and strawberries
worth Rs. 20 lakh per acre. He said that lotus plants and tubers are now being
produced in high-tech nurseries and distributed to farmers. Praising the
contribution of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, he said that the
Yogi government is fulfilling the Prime Minister's pledge to double farmers'
income.
In the technical session, Central Institute of Subtropical
Horticulture, Lucknow, APEDA, progressive farmers, FPO representatives and
experts from the food processing sector informed the farmers on safe harvesting
of mango, post harvest management, value addition, processing, export
standards, branding, natural farming and startup possibilities.
