Churachandpur (Manipur), 04 July (HS): Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Saturday visited Churachandpur for the first time since the 2023 ethnic violence to attend the funeral of former BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte.

Addressing mourners, the Chief Minister expressed deep regret over the May 2023 attack on Valte, saying, If I had been with him that evening, the incident would never have happened. He described the late MLA as one of his closest political colleagues and assured continued support to his family.

The visit took place amid heavy security and protests by sections of Kuki-Zomi civil society organisations, but concluded without any major untoward incident.-----------
