Guwahati, 04 July (HS): BJP Assam Pradesh spokesperson Manas Sarania on Saturday said Assam has forged a strong strategic partnership with Japan under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, paving the way for major investments in infrastructure, semiconductor manufacturing, green energy and industrial development.
Addressing the media, Sarania said although the proposed visit of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to Assam was postponed due to the ongoing session of the Japanese Parliament, Japan's commitment towards the state remains firm. He said the Chief Minister's visits to Japan and continued engagement with Japanese leaders have helped position Assam as a key destination for investment in Northeast India.
He stated that agreements reached during the recent India-Japan Summit have opened new opportunities for Assam in sectors such as advanced infrastructure, semiconductor manufacturing, resilient supply chains and clean energy. Japanese companies are expected to support the Tata Semiconductor Project at Jagiroad, while discussions are underway to establish semiconductor innovation laboratories in the state with assistance from JICA. Plans are also being considered for a 600-acre Japanese Industrial Township at Nagarbera and an industrial corridor linking Assam with Bangladesh's Matarbari Deep Sea Port.
Sarania further highlighted Japanese-supported projects already underway in Assam, including the Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge, Guwahati's water supply and drainage projects, bamboo-based biofuel initiatives and dairy-linked bio-CNG projects. He said programmes like CM-FLIGHT are also preparing Assamese youth with Japanese language skills to enhance global employment opportunities.
The BJP spokesperson asserted that these collaborations would accelerate Assam's economic transformation by attracting investments, creating employment and strengthening the state's position as a major industrial hub in the region. He credited Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma's leadership and long-term vision for securing Japan's confidence and expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.-----------
