Guwahati, 04 July (HS): An accused arrested in connection with a fake Indian currency racket was shot in the leg during a police operation after allegedly attempting to flee in Guwahati early on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Ajay Biswakarma, sustained a bullet injury to his right leg and was admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment. He and co-accused Debojit Deori, both from Dhemaji district, were arrested after Dispur Police intercepted their car near Nagaland House in Six Mile on July 2.
Police recovered suspected counterfeit ₹500 notes with a face value of ₹2.56 lakh from the vehicle along with other incriminating materials. Investigators believe the duo may be linked to a wider fake currency network. The probe is continuing to trace the source of the counterfeit notes and identify other suspects.----------
