Kolkata, 04 July (H.S.): Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) chief and Naoda MLA Humayun Kabir appeared before Rejinagar Police Station in West Bengal's Murshidabad district on Saturday for questioning in connection with a case related to his alleged controversial remarks.

Kabir arrived at the police station a few minutes before the scheduled time. Before entering the premises, he told reporters that if he were arrested, 100 to 120 people are prepared to court arrest voluntarily, adding that a list of volunteers was ready.

The case stems from a public meeting organised by the AJUP in Rejinagar on June 26, where Kabir allegedly made controversial remarks against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Following complaints lodged at Rejinagar and Shaktipur police stations, police summoned him for questioning.

Kabir has also been accused of allegedly threatening the Officer-in-Charge of Shaktipur Police Station. He was asked to appear before the Shaktipur police on Friday in connection with that case but did not do so. He appeared before Rejinagar Police Station on Saturday instead.

Meanwhile, police have already arrested three AJUP leaders in connection with the case. The arrested persons have been identified as Golam Mustafa, Mohammad Aminul Haque and Anisur Rahman, who were reportedly organisers of the June 26 meeting where the alleged remarks were made.

According to police, the arrests were made in separate operations based on FIRs registered at Rejinagar and Shaktipur police stations.

Security was tightened around Rejinagar Police Station during Kabir's appearance, with drones deployed for aerial surveillance. Supporters of the AJUP gathered outside the party office near the police station from early Saturday morning.

Police are currently questioning Humayun Kabir, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
