Chennai, July 31 (HS): DMK president M.K. Stalin on Friday criticised the Tamil Nadu government over issues in the power sector, alleging that consumers have been facing frequent power cuts and inflated electricity bills since the present administration assumed office.

In a post on social media, the former Chief Minister claimed that the government had acknowledged receiving more than 3.7 lakh complaints related to higher electricity bills. He alleged that the actual number of affected consumers could be much higher.

Stalin urged the government to extend the deadline for payment of electricity bills until the reported anomalies are examined and resolved.

He also called for proper auditing of the billing process and said electricity meter readings should be recorded accurately to prevent recurrence of such issues.

There was no immediate response from the Tamil Nadu government to Stalin's allegations.
