New Delhi, 31 July (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the building collapse incident in Maharashtra’s Thane and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. An ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh each has been announced from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the tragedy. Each injured person will also receive financial assistance of Rs 50,000.

In a message posted on the social media platform ‘X’, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that the news of the loss of lives due to the building collapse in Thane was extremely tragic. The Prime Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.

Prime Minister Modi said that the Central Government stands firmly with the affected families during this difficult time and that the ex-gratia assistance announced from the PMNRF will be provided at the earliest.

It may be noted that late Thursday night, a four-storey Kohinoor Apartment building located in the Balaji Nagar-Gangaramwadi area of Bhiwandi in Maharashtra’s Thane district suddenly collapsed. The incident claimed the lives of nine people, while several others were injured.
