New Delhi, 31 July (H.S.): Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday paid heartfelt tributes to the legendary revolutionary and freedom fighter Shaheed Sardar Udham Singh on his martyrdom day, remembering his indomitable courage, unwavering patriotism and supreme sacrifice.

Paying homage to the great revolutionary, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge described Sardar Udham Singh as a symbol of extraordinary courage and patriotism. He offered his respectful tributes while recalling the martyr's unparalleled sacrifice and unwavering dedication to the nation.

AAP National Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote on social media platform X, On the martyrdom day of Sardar Udham Singh, an embodiment of boundless patriotism and extraordinary courage, I pay my humble tributes to him. He said that by avenging the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the true son of Mother India had made every Indian hold their head high with pride. He added that Udham Singh's unwavering resolve and deep love for the motherland would continue to inspire generations to dedicate themselves to the service of the nation.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also paid tribute to Sardar Udham Singh on his death anniversary, stating that by avenging the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, he demonstrated India's spirit of self-respect, courage and commitment to justice before the world. She said that his sacrifice, valour and patriotism would continue to inspire the nation for generations to come.

Notably, on March 13, 1940, Sardar Udham Singh assassinated Michael O'Dwyer, the then Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, at Caxton Hall in London. O'Dwyer was widely held responsible for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Following the assassination, Udham Singh was arrested and was executed by hanging at Pentonville Prison in London on July 31, 1940.
