Kochi, July 31 (HS): Educational institutions in five districts of Kerala remained closed on Friday following heavy rainfall and an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
District collectors declared a holiday for schools, colleges and other educational institutions in Ernakulam, Wayanad, Kasaragod, Alappuzha and Kottayam as a precautionary measure in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state and issued an orange alert for several districts. Authorities have advised people living in low-lying, hilly and landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow directions issued by local administrations.
Emergency response teams and disaster management authorities have been kept on alert to deal with any rain-related incidents.
