New Delhi, 31 July (H.S.): The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise of electoral rolls was conducted in Haryana and Andhra Pradesh from June 15 to July 24. The Chief Electoral Officers of both states on Friday shared key figures related to voter verification, revealing that names of 33.83 lakh voters in Haryana and 44.89 lakh voters in Andhra Pradesh were removed from the electoral lists.

The deleted names account for 16.39 per cent of voters in Haryana and 10.88 per cent in Andhra Pradesh. The removals were linked to reasons such as death, permanent migration, absence and registration of names at multiple locations.

According to data released by the Election Commission, enumeration forms were received from 1.727 crore voters (83.61 per cent) in Haryana. A total of 24.13 lakh voters (11.68 per cent) could not be verified due to reasons including permanent relocation, absence or other circumstances. Information regarding the death of 7.66 lakh voters (3.71 per cent) was received, while 2.04 lakh voters (0.99 per cent) were found registered in electoral rolls at more than one location.

In Andhra Pradesh, 3.71 crore voters (89.22 per cent) submitted their enumeration forms. The death of 15.22 lakh voters (3.66 per cent) was confirmed. Around 22.30 lakh voters (5.35 per cent) were found to have permanently shifted, remained absent or fell under other categories. Additionally, 7.37 lakh voters (1.77 per cent) were found to have their names registered at multiple locations.

Election officials clarified that voters whose enumeration forms were not received would not necessarily be removed from the electoral rolls. Such cases may include individuals who have become voters in another state, failed to submit forms within the stipulated period, were unavailable at the registered address, or did not wish to continue their registration for any other reason.

The Election Commission stated that during the claims and objections period from July 31 to August 30, genuine eligible voters can get their names included in the electoral rolls by submitting Form-6 along with the required declaration. Meanwhile, voters found registered at multiple locations will retain their names only in the electoral roll of one constituency.
