Hooghly, 31 July (H.S.): Train services on the Howrah–Bardhaman Main Line were disrupted during the busy morning hours on Friday after a railway engine derailed near Bhadreswar station in Hooghly district.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 a.m., when two wheels of the engine went off the tracks. Following the incident, train movement on the reverse line was temporarily suspended.
As the reverse line is used during peak hours to operate down trains towards Howrah and, when required, up trains towards Bandel and Bardhaman, its closure affected normal train operations. Trains on both the up and down lines were reportedly running with delays.
Railway personnel have already begun efforts to remove the derailed engine from the reverse line. Railway sources said the engine is expected to be placed back on the track shortly, following which train services are likely to return to normal.
Authorities are monitoring the situation and working to restore normal train movement at the earliest.
