Kochi, July 31 (HS): The Opposition CPI(M) on Friday said it would challenge the vigilance department's clean chit to Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan in connection with the probe into foreign fund collection for the Punarjani housing project.

Addressing a press conference here, CPI(M) Ernakulam district secretary S. Satheesh said the party would pursue legal remedies against the vigilance report while continuing its campaign over the alleged irregularities in the Punarjani housing project, which was launched after the 2018 Kerala floods in Satheesan's North Paravur constituency.

Satheesh alleged that several questions relating to the project remained unanswered and said the party would not allow the issue to be closed on the basis of the vigilance findings. He said the CPI(M) would move the court challenging the clean chit granted to the Chief Minister.

The vigilance department had recently given a clean chit to Satheesan in the matter after completing its inquiry.
