Mumbai, 30 July (HS): A Kalyan Court has issued

summons to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Balasaheb Thakeray and Deputy Chief Minister

Eknath Shinde in Vasant Deokhare defamation case. They are facing charges showing

edited version of arguments between NCP Leader Vasant Daokhare and Shiv Sena candidate

Anand Paranjpe during 2009 Lok Sabha elections in Kalyan constituency. Uddhav

Thackeray used the video during a public meeting in Dombivali on April 22, 2009.

Eknath Shinde was with him. The case is of the date when Shiv Sena was not

broken.

In the video Daokhare was shown appealing his

workers not to have fear of police or election officers in an effort to win the

elections.

Daokhare had called the video morphed and used to

tarnish his image. He then initiated a defaramation casue against Thackeray,

Shinde, Paranjape and Ramakant Deolekar. At the same tome Shiv Sena claimed the

video to be real.

Kalyan court has summoned Thackeray and Shinde

during hearing in the case. Both have been directed to remain person before the

court on August 6.

Vasant Daokhare, who was former Deputy Chairman of

Maharashtra Legislative Council, died later in January 2018. His son Niranjan Daokhare is a sitting MLC

now.
