East Medinipur, 30 July (H.S.): The administration has issued a high alert in Digha, Tajpur and Mandarmani in East Medinipur district following continuous rainfall and rough sea conditions triggered by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.

Keeping tourist safety in mind, the administration on Thursday morning imposed a complete ban on entering the sea at the coastal tourist destinations. All fishing trawlers operating in the deep sea have also been instructed to return to the shore immediately.

High waves and strong winds have been prevailing along the coast since Wednesday. The powerful waves have reportedly damaged parts of the guard walls along the shoreline. To prevent any untoward incident, the administration has installed red-rope barricades along the beaches.

Police personnel and Nulia lifeguards are continuously making announcements through loudspeakers, urging tourists to stay away from the sea.

East Medinipur Superintendent of Police Anshuman Saha said that, considering the current condition of the sea, tourists have been completely prohibited from entering the water. All fishing trawlers operating in the deep sea have also been directed to return to shore at the earliest.

The administration and police are maintaining strict vigil at the district's marine fishing harbours. Meanwhile, continuous rainfall has started causing waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the district.
