President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and other leaders on Thursday extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Indian athletes who won medals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026.

President Murmu, in a post on social media platform X, congratulated Murali Sreeshankar for winning the silver medal in the men’s long jump event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. She said that securing consecutive Commonwealth silver medals is a remarkable achievement and a matter of immense pride for the entire nation. She wished him a bright future and continued success.

The President also praised the performance of Indian para-athletes, saying that Indian para athletics has scripted a memorable chapter with its outstanding achievements. She congratulated Dilip Mahadu Gavit for winning the gold medal and Mohammed Basith Morsinganakathi for securing the silver medal in the men’s 100-metre T47 event. She said their historic gold-silver finish is a significant milestone for Indian para athletics and expressed hope that they would continue to inspire the nation with their determination and exceptional performances.

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan said India’s impressive performance at the Games reflects the talent, determination and excellence of the country’s athletes. He wished them greater success in their future endeavours as they continue to bring pride and honour to the nation.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that winning a silver medal at consecutive Commonwealth Games is a remarkable achievement and a testament to Murali Sreeshankar’s dedication and outstanding performance.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the achievements of Indian athletes demonstrate their remarkable consistency, strength and unwavering determination. He described their success as a proud moment for India and a source of inspiration for countless young athletes across the country. He wished them further success and hoped they would continue to bring more glory to the nation.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated Dilip Mahadu Gavit for winning the gold medal in the men’s para 100-metre T47 event with a Games record time of 10.71 seconds and Mohammed Basith for securing the silver medal with a timing of 10.83 seconds.

Mandaviya said Dilip Gavit created history by becoming the first Indian male para-athlete to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, making the achievement even more special. He lauded both athletes for their outstanding performances and hailed them as champions.
