Guwahati, 30 July (HS): Assam Minister Rameswar Teli on Thursday said that more than 78 people have lost their lives in the recent floods across the state, adding that the death toll may rise further as rescue teams continue search operations in areas buried under heavy mud and debris.

Speaking to the media on the prevailing flood situation, Teli said that at least 30 tea gardens across Assam have been inundated by floodwaters, with 11 of them severely affected. He said the information was based on a report submitted by the Labour Commissioner.

The minister noted that rescue and relief operations are underway in the affected districts, with authorities ensuring that displaced families receive adequate food and essential supplies.

Teli also said that the Indian Army has been deployed to assist in rescue and relief efforts in flood-hit areas, while state agencies are working in coordination to evacuate stranded residents, distribute relief materials and carry out restoration measures.-----------
