New Delhi, 30 July (H.S.): The Delhi Police on Thursday dismissed claims circulating on social media regarding the closure of Jantar Mantar for protests, calling them completely misleading and baseless. The police clarified that Jantar Mantar continues to remain an authorised venue for peaceful and legally permitted demonstrations.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Delhi Police said rumours were being spread on social media claiming that Jantar Mantar had been closed for protesters or that the site had been locked. The police described these claims as entirely false, misleading and contrary to facts.
According to the police, under the directions of the Supreme Court and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Delhi Police for its implementation, demonstrations at Jantar Mantar can be permitted for a maximum of 1,000 people at a time.
The Delhi Police stated that permission for protests is granted by the competent authority after formal applications are submitted by organisers or individuals concerned. It is mandatory for all protesters and organisers to follow the prescribed rules, regulations and conditions.
The police urged people not to believe or circulate unverified and misleading information. It advised citizens to rely only on official sources for accurate updates and information.
