New Delhi, 30 July (H.S.):

The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has established a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, to promote indigenous telecommunications research and innovation. The centre will serve as a key hub for research and development in advanced communication technologies.

The Ministry of Communications said that C-DOT, under the ministry, has set up the CoE in collaboration with IISc and the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID). Under the agreement, the centre will bridge academia and industry while conducting advanced research in areas such as 5G Advanced, 6G, quantum technologies, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence-based communication systems.

C-DOT Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay said that the collaboration represents a strategic investment in India’s telecommunications innovation ecosystem. He said that the world-class research capabilities of IISc, combined with C-DOT’s expertise, will play a crucial role in developing future communication technologies.

Professor Nilesh B. Mehta, Head of the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering at IISc, said that the partnership will provide students and researchers with opportunities to work closely with C-DOT experts, thereby accelerating the pace of innovation.

FSID CEO Om Prakash Subbarao said that the collaboration is an important step towards strengthening the connection between academia and industry. He added that the initiative will enhance India’s scientific capabilities and technological leadership.

It is worth noting that C-DOT has previously established Centres of Excellence with institutions including IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Roorkee. The new centre at IISc marks an expansion of this network and is expected to play a significant role in helping India achieve global leadership in next-generation telecommunications technologies.
