Glasgow, 29 July (H.S.): Indian weightlifter Harjinder Kaur delivered a remarkable performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, winning the silver medal in the women’s 69kg weight category on Tuesday. Harjinder successfully completed all six of her attempts in the snatch and clean & jerk events, lifting a total weight of 227kg to finish second.

In the snatch event, Harjinder began with a successful lift of 96kg and followed it up by clearing 99kg and 101kg in her subsequent attempts. With her best snatch effort of 101kg, she finished behind Canada’s Charlotte Simone, who took the lead after lifting 108kg.

Harjinder continued her impressive form in the clean & jerk category as well. She successfully lifted 120kg in her first attempt, followed by 123kg in her second attempt and 126kg in her final attempt.

With a combined total of 227kg, including 101kg in snatch and 126kg in clean & jerk, Harjinder secured the silver medal for India.

Canada’s Charlotte Simone clinched the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record total of 240kg, comprising a 108kg snatch and a 132kg clean & jerk performance.

Australia’s Nya Phoebe Hayman claimed the bronze medal after registering a total lift of 218kg.

The silver medal marked Harjinder Kaur’s second consecutive Commonwealth Games podium finish. She had previously won a bronze medal in the women’s 71kg weight category at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Competing in the 69kg category at Glasgow 2026, Harjinder once again brought glory to India with a medal-winning performance.
