
New Delhi, 28 July (H.S.): Global markets are showing signs of weakness on Tuesday, with mixed trends witnessed in the US market during the previous trading session. Dow Jones futures are also trading with marginal losses. Meanwhile, European markets ended the previous session on a positive note, while Asian markets are witnessing selling pressure today.
In the United States, Wall Street remained under pressure in the previous session due to heavy selling in shares of semiconductor companies. The S&P 500 index closed marginally higher by 0.02 per cent at 7,413.18 points. In contrast, the Nasdaq ended the session down 0.18 per cent at 24,932.08 points. Dow Jones futures were trading slightly lower by 0.03 per cent at 52,196.36 points.
European markets maintained a positive trend during the previous session. The FTSE index gained 0.42 per cent to close at 10,781.75 points. Similarly, France’s CAC index ended 0.40 per cent higher at 8,406.06 points. Germany’s DAX index also recorded a strong performance, rising 262.03 points, or 1.03 per cent, to close at 25,361.03 points.
Asian markets are witnessing broad-based selling pressure on Tuesday. Out of nine major Asian markets, eight indices are trading in the red. Thailand’s stock market remained closed due to a holiday, leaving the SET Composite Index unchanged. Gift Nifty was trading 0.16 per cent lower at 24,002.50 points, while the Straits Times Index declined 0.21 per cent to 5,608.48 points.
The impact of heavy selling in US semiconductor stocks was also visible in South Korea’s stock market. The South Korean benchmark KOSPI index was trading sharply lower, declining 692.60 points, or 10.25 per cent, to 6,063.15 points.
Japan’s Tokyo Stock Exchange also witnessed intense selling pressure, dragging the Nikkei index down by 2,611.19 points, or 4.02 per cent, to 62,320 points.
Similarly, Taiwan’s Weighted Index declined 1,609.79 points, or 3.69 per cent, to 42,024.40 points. The Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.98 per cent to 3,820.52 points, while the Jakarta Composite Index slipped 0.08 per cent to 6,181.10 points. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index was also trading marginally lower by 0.06 per cent at 25,192 points.
