Glasgow, 26 July (H.S.): Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha praised the opening ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, saying the Organising Committee extended a warm and respectful welcome to all participating athletes and ensured a memorable start to the competition. She also expressed confidence that the Indian contingent would deliver an outstanding performance and win a significant number of medals across multiple disciplines.

PT Usha said the opening ceremony was exceptionally impressive and that the dignity and recognition accorded to the athletes made the occasion a memorable experience for all participants. She commended the Glasgow Organising Committee for its meticulous preparations and warm hospitality, adding that the atmosphere had infused the athletes with positive energy ahead of the competition.

The IOA President also expressed confidence in the preparedness of the Indian contingent, saying the team comprises several talented athletes capable of winning medals for the country in a variety of events. She said the athletes have worked tirelessly in preparation for the Games and expressed her belief that India would produce an impressive overall performance.

PT Usha also congratulated para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar, who won India's first medal of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. She said his bronze medal in the men's heavyweight category had provided an inspiring start to India's campaign and would play a significant role in boosting the morale of the entire contingent.

It is noteworthy that India has fielded a strong contingent across all 10 sports featured at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The squad includes several Olympic and World Championship medallists, raising expectations of a successful medal haul for the country.
