Glasgow, 25 July (H.S.): Indian boxing star Sachin Siwach made a strong start at the Commonwealth Games 2026 by advancing to the pre-quarterfinals (Round of 16) in the men’s 60kg category on Saturday.

The Tops Core Group athlete defeated Canada’s Keoma Al-Ahmadiah by a 4-1 split decision to secure his place in the next round.

The bout was highly competitive, with the Canadian boxer making a strong comeback in the final round and earning 10 points from three judges, while Sachin received 10 points from two judges.

However, based on the overall performance throughout the contest, four judges declared Sachin the winner with scores of 29-28, 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28. One judge gave the decision in favour of the Canadian boxer by a score of 29-28.

With this victory, Sachin has entered the Round of 16, where he will face England’s William Hewitt. The bout is scheduled to be held on July 27 at 4:45 pm Indian Standard Time. The winner of the contest will advance to the quarter-finals.

Sachin, a gold medallist at the World Boxing Cup Finals, is among India’s medal hopes at the Commonwealth Games. With a commanding performance in his opening bout, he has already made his intentions clear in the tournament.
