MOSCOW, July 23 (HS/RIA Novosti) - The United States is considering military action in Mali to target the al-Qaeda-affiliated Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) (terrorist organizations banned in Russia), the Washington Post newspaper has reported.

There is currently no agreement on the issue among senior administration officials, the newspaper reported on Wednesday citing current and former US officials.

US President Donald Trump's deputy assistant, the National Security Council's senior director for counterterrorism Sebastian Gorka, is reportedly advocating for such actions.

The West African country has been plagued by militants affiliated with al-Qaeda as well as Tuareg rebels from the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA).
