
Glasgow, 23 July (H.S.): Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports and Labour and Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday participated in a cycle rally with members of the Indian community in Glasgow, Scotland, under the ‘Cheer for Bharat’ initiative. During the event, he conveyed the message of fitness, healthy living and community participation while encouraging Indian athletes participating in the Commonwealth Games 2026.
A large number of people from the Indian diaspora took part in the cycle rally. The objective of the event was not only to extend support to Indian athletes but also to motivate people to adopt physical activities as part of their daily lives. The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen engagement with the Indian diaspora through sports and fitness while promoting an active lifestyle.
During the rally, Dr. Mandaviya interacted with participants and appreciated their enthusiasm towards the Fit India Movement.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mandaviya said that Indian athletes have arrived in Glasgow to represent the country at the Commonwealth Games 2026, and it was encouraging to see the Indian community coming together under the ‘Cheer for Bharat’ initiative to support them.
He said the cycle rally sends a message to the world that fitness is essential for every individual and society. He added that the enthusiasm shown by the Indian diaspora towards the Fit India Movement, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflects their commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle while staying connected with the initiative across different countries.
Dr. Mandaviya said that building a developed India is possible only when its citizens are healthy. He appealed to all Indians to join the Fit India Movement and contribute towards achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Highlighting the benefits of cycling, the minister said it not only helps individuals remain fit but also plays an important role in reducing pollution, easing traffic congestion and protecting the environment.
Dr. Mandaviya is currently visiting Glasgow in connection with the Commonwealth Games 2026. During his visit, he is meeting Indian athletes, officials and members of the Indian community. The visit reflects the government’s commitment to promoting sporting excellence and strengthening the Fit India initiative at the global level.
