Zurich, 23 July (H.S.): The fan-voted Dream XI for the FIFA World Cup 2026 has been announced, with football superstars including Argentina’s Lionel Messi, France’s Kylian Mbappe, Norway’s Erling Haaland and England’s Jude Bellingham securing places in the star-studded lineup. Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, who impressed fans with his outstanding performances during the tournament, has also been included in the Dream XI.

Vozinha, 40, received 39.6 per cent of the votes in the goalkeeper category. He delivered remarkable performances for debutants Cape Verde at the World Cup. However, Spain’s Unai Simon won the Golden Glove award, which was selected by FIFA’s Technical Study Group.

Vozinha was without a club after leaving Portuguese second-division side Chaves before the World Cup. Despite this, he produced a series of impressive displays during the tournament, including making seven crucial saves in Cape Verde’s goalless draw against Spain. He also played a key role in helping his team push Argentina into extra time in their Round of 32 encounter.

Norwegian star striker Erling Haaland received 27.5 per cent of the votes in the forward category. Haaland scored seven goals in five matches and played a crucial role in guiding Norway to their first-ever World Cup quarter-final appearance. He scored twice in Norway’s 2-1 victory over five-time champions Brazil in the Round of 16. Norway’s campaign eventually ended after a defeat against England.

Along with Haaland and Vozinha, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Rodri, Michael Olise, Pedro Porro, Lisandro Martinez, Dayot Upamecano and Marc Cucurella have also been included in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Dream XI.
