New Delhi, 23 July (H.S.): Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday targeted the government over the NEET paper leak issue, police action against protesting students and the demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. She alleged that it was the first time in the history of democracy that ruling party MPs were protesting outside Parliament, claiming that the government was too weak to run the House.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament complex, Priyanka Gandhi said that young people raising legitimate demands were being subjected to “atrocities” and alleged that police used lathi-charge and tear gas against them.

She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes credit for every achievement, whether it is India’s space missions or Olympic medals, but questioned why he was not taking responsibility for paper leaks. She alleged that 152 paper leaks had taken place over the past 10 years and claimed that not a single accused had been punished.

Priyanka Gandhi further alleged that while the Prime Minister posts messages expressing concern for students, the same students face police action at night. She said that if the Prime Minister takes credit for achievements, he should also accept responsibility for failures.

She added that thousands of students were protesting on the streets, internet services had been suspended and protesters were facing police action. She warned that if any student suffered harm, the responsibility would lie with the Prime Minister.
