West Bengal, 23 July (H.S.): A day after chaotic scenes in the West Bengal Assembly, fresh tensions erupted on Thursday as Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh engaged in a heated exchange with Speaker Rathin Bose over his description of Wednesday's events as disgraceful.

The controversy began when senior TMC MLA Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay attempted to raise the previous day's incident. Speaker Bose, however, ruled out any discussion, saying, Yesterday's incident was extremely disgraceful. There will be no discussion on it today.

Objecting to the remark, Kunal Ghosh left his seat and walked to the Speaker's podium, questioning why only Wednesday's events had been termed disgraceful when walkouts, heated exchanges and even the removal of members by marshals had occurred in the Assembly on several occasions in the past.

Although the Speaker repeatedly directed him to return to his seat, Ghosh continued to press his point for some time. Marshals moved in to defuse the situation, but unlike Wednesday, he was not removed from the House. He later returned to his seat but continued to protest at various points during the proceedings.

The session also witnessed verbal exchanges between Trinamool and BJP legislators, with a heated argument between Kunal Ghosh and BJP MLA Ritesh Tiwari drawing attention.

Speaking to reporters after the session, Ghosh criticised both Speaker Rathin Bose and the party's Chief Whip, alleging that despite being included in the list of scheduled speakers, he was repeatedly being denied an opportunity to speak in the House.

He also accused the BJP of attempting to silence strong opposition voices. Referring to the Speaker, Ghosh said, Rathin Bose is a gentleman, but what is happening is not good for his image as Speaker either.
