New Delhi, 23 July (H.S.):

The Central government has approved ₹679.71 crore for upgrading National Highway-42 from a two-lane road to a four-lane highway between Mudigubba and Kadiri in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district. The project is expected to improve connectivity between several areas of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka with the Bengaluru-Vijayawada-Kolkata (BVK) Expressway, Tirupati and Chennai.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari shared the information on social media platform X on Thursday. He said that under the project, the existing two-lane road will be converted into a four-lane highway with paved shoulders.

The project will establish seamless connectivity from Anantapur and Sri Sathya Sai districts, along with parts of Karnataka, to the BVK Expressway, Tirupati and Chennai. It will help reduce travel and freight transportation time, ease traffic congestion and boost regional logistics and economic activities.

Gadkari said the project includes the construction of a four-lane main carriageway, service roads, one flyover, a vehicle underpass-cum-road over bridge (VUP-cum-ROB) and a major bridge.

The development is expected to make travel safer and smoother for both passengers and freight vehicles while strengthening road infrastructure in the region.
