New Delhi, 23 July (H.S.):

Gitanjali J. Angmo, wife of environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk, has expressed concern over the allegations being levelled against students participating in the protest at Jantar Mantar.

In a post on X on Thursday, Angmo wrote, “As a teacher, it is deeply painful to see my students being portrayed negatively in the media. These students have been protesting peacefully at Jantar Mantar. Instead of blaming them, their concerns should have been heard. Our children deserve safety, not to be portrayed as villains. Their voices deserve to be heard.”

She also urged people not to associate the ongoing movement with reports of violence elsewhere in Delhi without evidence. She said those who genuinely know the students have witnessed their extraordinary patience, discipline and restraint throughout the protest.

Notably, following the announcement of the CJP-led Chalo Parliament march, thousands of students gathered on July 20 to stage a protest against alleged irregularities in the education system and the NEET paper leak issue. The protesters demanded the resignation of the Union Education Minister over the controversy.

During the demonstration, clashes broke out between the police and the protesting students. Since the incident, both sides have levelled serious allegations and counter-allegations against each other.
