Amid the ongoing protest by the social media campaign Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Police has issued a clarification regarding media reports linking the National Security Act (NSA) order with the demonstration.

The police on Thursday clarified that the preventive powers granted to the Delhi Police Commissioner under the NSA were not issued to stop or deal with the CJP protest. The order is part of a routine administrative process that is renewed every three months.

According to the police, some media organisations had reported that the Police Commissioner was granted powers under the NSA to make arrests and initiate preventive detention measures in order to control the CJP protest. The police termed these reports misleading and stated that the existing order has no connection with the demonstration.

The police said the order for renewal of powers under the NSA was issued on July 7, 2026, and will remain effective from July 19, 2026, to October 18, 2026. This means the order was issued before the CJP protest began and was implemented as part of a pre-scheduled administrative procedure.

The police further clarified that no special proposal or separate request was made in view of the current situation. The routine three-month renewal process was wrongly linked with the CJP protest in some media reports, creating confusion among the public.

The Delhi Police appealed to people not to believe misleading reports and urged them to verify information only through official sources. It stated that unverified information circulated through social media and other platforms can create confusion in matters related to law and order, and people should rely only on factual information.
