Guwahati, 23 July (HS): Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday accused the state government of serious delays in providing emergency relief to flood-affected people across Assam. He alleged that essential supplies such as ration, safe drinking water and sanitation materials were not reaching affected families on time.

Describing the floods as a major humanitarian crisis, Gogoi urged the government to disclose the actual death toll and ensure that relief reaches every affected household without further delay.

In a post on X, Gogoi said that 41 people had lost their lives, several others were still missing, thousands had been rendered homeless, and lakhs of people were unable to live with dignity due to the devastating floods.

He further alleged that there had been an unacceptable delay in distributing emergency ration, drinking water, phenyl, clothes and bleaching powder to flood-hit residents.

The Congress leader and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said he had recently visited the worst-affected districts of Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo, where he personally witnessed the extent of the damage and what he described as inadequate assistance from the local administration.

Gogoi also appealed to the state government to immediately release accurate figures on the number of deaths and ensure timely relief for every affected family. He urged the Central government to deploy a team of technical experts to assist people in rebuilding damaged homes and restoring agricultural activities disrupted by the floods.

The APCC chief also praised several youth and Gen-Z volunteer groups for organising relief efforts and serving food to hundreds of affected families every day. He called upon Congress workers and office-bearers to extend all possible assistance to flood-affected villages and families across Upper Assam.---------
