Madrid, 22 July (H.S.): After winning the FIFA World Cup 2026 title, Spain’s star footballers Pedri Gonzalez and Dani Olmo shared emotional messages for fans, thanking them for their unwavering support. Both players said that the historic achievement belongs to the entire nation of Spain.

Spain created history by defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 in extra time in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final to secure their second World Cup title.

Celebrations erupted across Spain, including the capital Madrid, following the team’s historic triumph. After celebrating the victory with thousands of supporters, midfielder Dani Olmo shared a heartfelt message on social media platform X, writing, “I still do not have words. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining us in yesterday’s celebrations and for continuously supporting us throughout the entire World Cup.”

Spain’s young midfielder Pedri Gonzalez also posted an emotional message, saying, “The greatest success is my own people. We dreamed together and travelled this journey together.”

In the final, substitute player Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute of extra time to give Spain a 1-0 victory. Torres converted a pass from Nico Williams’ header to secure Spain’s place as world champions.

Head coach Luis de la Fuente’s team dominated large parts of the match and created several scoring opportunities. However, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez produced 12 outstanding saves to keep his team in contention for a long period. Eventually, Torres’ goal sealed a historic victory for Spain.

With this triumph, Spain lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy again after 16 years. The country had previously won its first World Cup title in 2010. Spain remained unbeaten throughout the 2026 tournament and added another major international honour following their UEFA Euro 2024 success.
