New Delhi, 22 July (H.S.):

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday criticised the opposition over the ongoing deadlock in Parliament, saying that members should raise their concerns during discussions instead of imposing conditions to prevent debates.

Speaking to reporters in Parliament, Rijiju said that every MP has the full right to express their views if a discussion takes place in the House. He said that whether it is the Congress or Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, all members can present their opinions openly during parliamentary debates.

Rijiju said creating excuses to stop discussions is not appropriate and goes against democratic traditions. He asserted that the government does not run away from any issue and is always prepared to provide information about its work and face discussions on matters raised in Parliament.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister urged the opposition not to adopt an approach that prevents the functioning of the House. He said parliamentary proceedings are conducted according to established rules and procedures.

He added that preventing discussions and later claiming that members were not given an opportunity to speak is not a fair approach. Rijiju emphasised that meaningful debates are essential for the effective functioning of democracy and Parliament.
