New Delhi, 22 July (H.S.): Global markets are showing positive signals on Wednesday, with the US stock markets managing to close higher in the previous session. However, Dow Jones futures are trading slightly lower today. European markets also witnessed sustained buying activity during the previous session, while Asian markets are showing a mixed trend.

US stock markets ended the previous session on a positive note, supported by gains in semiconductor stocks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 385.38 points, or 0.74 per cent, to close at 52,224.64 points. The S&P 500 index gained 0.89 per cent to settle at 7,509.20 points. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite advanced 329.13 points, or 1.29 per cent, ending the session at 25,837.21 points.

On the other hand, Dow Jones futures were trading marginally lower, declining 0.10 per cent to 52,171.90 points during early trade.

European markets maintained a strong momentum in the previous session, with continuous buying activity across major indices. The FTSE index climbed 0.58 per cent to close at 10,585.91 points. France’s CAC index gained 0.28 per cent and ended at 8,363.14 points. Germany’s DAX index also advanced 164.66 points, or 0.66 per cent, to settle at 25,011.35 points.

Asian markets, however, are witnessing a mixed trend in Wednesday’s trading session. Among nine major Asian markets, five indices are trading in positive territory, while four indices are under pressure and moving in the red.

Gift Nifty was trading lower by 126.50 points, or 0.52 per cent, at 24,043 points. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index declined 204.29 points, or 0.81 per cent, to 24,928 points. Thailand’s SET Composite Index slipped 0.76 per cent to 1,640.40 points, while Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite Index fell 0.15 per cent to 6,330.73 points.

Meanwhile, Japan’s Nikkei index gained 550.81 points, or 0.83 per cent, to reach 66,783 points. Singapore’s Straits Times Index rose 0.28 per cent to 5,542.21 points.

South Korea’s Kospi index witnessed a sharp rally, surging 318.88 points, or 4.73 per cent, to reach 7,066.83 points. Taiwan’s Weighted Index also recorded strong gains, rising 777.10 points, or 1.76 per cent, to 45,009.97 points.

China’s Shanghai Composite Index was also trading higher, gaining 0.50 per cent to reach 3,883.58 points.
