
New Delhi, 21 July (H.S.): The domestic equity market traded under pressure during early trading on Tuesday, with benchmark indices witnessing marginal losses amid volatile movements. Trading began on a weak note, and soon after the opening bell, a tug-of-war between buyers and sellers led to sharp fluctuations in market direction. By 10:00 am, the BSE Sensex was down 0.11 per cent, while the NSE Nifty had slipped 0.04 per cent.
Among the frontline stocks, Tech Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Shriram Finance, Bajaj Finserv, and Eicher Motors were trading higher by between 1.02 per cent and 1.65 per cent at around 10:00 am. On the other hand, HDFC Bank, Eternal, Adani Ports, Cipla, and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries were trading lower by between 0.51 per cent and 1.07 per cent.
A total of 2,653 stocks were actively traded in the market during the early session. Of these, 1,614 stocks were trading in the green with gains, while 1,039 stocks were in the red. Among the 30 Sensex constituents, 18 stocks were trading with gains, whereas 12 stocks remained under selling pressure. Similarly, among the 50 Nifty constituents, 29 stocks were trading in positive territory, while 21 were trading lower.
The BSE Sensex opened 58.89 points lower at 77,649.63. Soon after trading commenced, continuous buying and selling caused the index to fluctuate sharply. Supported by buying interest, the index climbed into positive territory to touch an intraday high of 77,753.18. However, renewed selling pressure dragged it down to an intraday low of 77,541.68. Amid continued volatility, the Sensex was trading 87.98 points lower at 77,620.54 at 10:00 am.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty opened 22.45 points lower at 24,216.05. As buyers and sellers attempted to gain control after the opening bell, the benchmark index witnessed significant fluctuations. Buying support pushed the Nifty to an intraday high of 24,262.20, while selling pressure pulled it down to an intraday low of 24,203.60. At 10:00 am, the Nifty was trading 10.40 points lower at 24,228.10.
In the previous trading session on Monday, the BSE Sensex had closed 442.93 points, or 0.57 per cent, lower at 77,708.52. The NSE Nifty had ended the session down by 95.80 points, or 0.39 per cent, at 24,238.50.
